New Media and Communications

After taking the NMC course at Full Sail University, I learned things that have already advanced my skills and abilities both professionally and personally. My goals for the course included developing effective communication skills on multimedia platforms, finding ways to reach different audiences, and to start my own blog site. The course has strengthened my writing by allowing me to better analyze and effectively tell a story to my target audience. It is key to cater to your specific audience so that it is more relatable and comprehendible. Creating this blog/website will allow me to provide information to young African-American women such as myself about beauty, lifestyle and self-care.

Throughout this course, personally I have learned to narrow my scope and key in on important factors to keep my readers interested and informed. I've also learned that there are different ways to reach this target audience, such as social media, blogs, podcasts, etc. Media is ever-changing and being fluid within different platforms is vital to a content creator's success. Professionally, knowing my audience and improving my networking skills can take me far in my career and open doors for several opportunities in my field.

Journalism competencies was another interesting area of this course, as it explained the dynamics of journalistic writing. This discussed the importance of finding your passion/motivation and providing expertise for the content you are writing about so that your target audience can have a deeper connection to your work. There are many competencies that play a part in content development for journalists such as civics, culture, technology, story-telling, critical thinking, numeracy, audio-visuals and evidence (just to name a few). Any successful journalist should be aware and educated on these competencies as it can be the uprise or downfall to any content created.

Ultimately, New Media and Communications has awarded me additional skills and knowledge that I know will be beneficial to any career path as well as personal life journey.
