Donating to the #BlackLivesMatter Movement

In today’s time, unfortunately racism is still very much so alive and negatively affecting the lives of many African American people.  Currently, there are many efforts taken in the United States in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.  These efforts include donations, petitions, marches, renaming streets, rallies, protests, different financial funds to support the loved ones of those who have died due to racial profiling and much more.  It is strongly urged during these trying times to help in any way possible.  This could be in the form of financial or emotional support, assisting with protests, staying updated with the news, signing petitions, spreading information via social media, or educating the youth and those that are unaware of the severity of the current state of the country.

One example of spreading the word and educating others is by passing along the message of black lives matter through a podcast, such as a close friend of mine has done, with Ask Myj the Podcast, Episode 12.  Myja Gary, a young African American woman discusses the importance of justice for George Floyd and the other black lives that were taken.  She includes political activists on her show as well as a licensed therapist to shed light on the mental impact of the systematic injustices in America.

Many major companies/organizations have offered support by simply putting the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter on the home page of their site or including an informative video, such as Amazon and  Nike.  In order to support the movement, end racial injustice and liberate black people, the Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2013 after Trayvon Martin’s murderer was exonerated of his charges. Their site includes a place to donate, buy merchandise such as clothing, mugs, accessories, facemasks, flags, etc.  Many individuals of color are outraged at the police brutality and overall racism experienced in America today based on the recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many more. We will continue to work together to receive justice and end white supremacy forever.
